I am an estuarine biologist specialising in the interactions between the physical and chemical processes in estuaries and their control of eutrophication. Recently I have been focusing on the ecosystem services provided by estuaries and coastal waters and how we can more effectively integrate science and policy to produce more effective marine resource management.
I am interested in bridging the science/policy gap using novel communication tools.

Research projects
I am currently operations coordinator for KnowSeas, a €7.5m EU FP7 project. The project has 31 partners in 15 countries and combines expertise from ecologists, economists and social scientists to help guide implementation of the Ecosystem Approach under the Marine Strategy Framework Directive.
