Student support
All students will be assigned an academic advisor who can provide help and support with all academic issues. In addition, module leaders are happy to provide more specific advice in their particular module.
Each year group also is assigned a year leader who will oversee general progress and is a useful point of contact for any general or personal issues.
All first year students are matched up with a student mentor who is invaluable in helping you with life at SAMS, such as advice on the best place to go for a night out to who would be best to approach in the lecturing team on a specific academic matter.
Where students do not wish to approach their tutor or wish to seek an outside approach, they are encouraged to use the SAMS student support service by contacting the student registry officer. If the specific information is not to hand, there is a network of contacts which you can be put in touch with to help. No worry is too minor to speak to student support about – indeed this can prevent those becoming major issues.
We may be able to provide support with finance. Applications to the UHI discretionary fund are handled through the SAMS Company Secretary. Application forms for this fund and other UHI top up funds are available from the Registry department (see above link).
