Exit qualifications
The BSc Marine Science course provides exit qualifications for students leaving after every year of successful study:
- Students successfully completing the four year course (or longer if part-time) will be awarded an honours degree in marine science from the University of the Highlands and Islands. The honours qualification is graded into 1st class (70% or more), 2nd class upper division (60-69%), 2nd class lower division (50-59) and third class (40-49%). Students who take the Arctic Studies route and spend one or two semesters of year 3 at UNIS in Svalbard as well as conducting their dissertation on an Arctic topic will receive a BSc (Hons) Marine Science with Arctic Studies from the University of the Highlands and Islands graded as mentioned above.
- Students who successfully complete three full-time years of the degree course will receive a BSc Marine Science. This qualification is ungraded.
- Students leaving the course after two full-time years of successful studying will receive a Diploma of Higher Education in Foundations of Marine Science. This qualification is ungraded.
- Students exiting the course after one full-time year of successful study qualify for a Certificate of Higher Education in Fundamentals of Marine Science. This qualification is ungraded.
