Profile

Support Scientist, Culture Collection of Algae and Protozoa

Description of expertise and work

My job mainly involves the maintenance and subculture of certain groups of microalgae, seaweeds and protozoa from the Culture Collection of Algae and Protozoa, isolation of new strains, and the morphological and molecular identification of both, newly isolated strains and CCAP holdings.

I am also involved in the on-going compilation of a photographic database of protozoan and algal cultures and the cryopreservation of the CCAP holdings as part of Oceans 2025.

My main interest is phytoplankton diversity and taxonomy, especially diatoms!
